How to Soft-Boil an Egg

Perhaps women didn’t always have clocks in the kitchen to keep tract of food preparation times, but they found ways.  One dear old grandma was often heard singing “Nearer, My God, to Thee,” as she prepared the breakfast.

One day her teenaged granddaughter asked her, “Is that your favourite song, Grandma? It sounds pretty sad to start off the day.”

Grandma chuckled.  “That might be, but I start singing it when the eggs in the pot come to a boil and I know when I’ve finished the third verse the eggs are soft-boiled. Learned that method from my mum and it works better than a timer.”
